Our Issues, Our Voice
Equal Voice Action was formed by and for poor and low-income families. We exist to build the voice and power of families who have been left out and unheard for far too long. Like all families in our country, we deserve and demand to have a say in the decisions that affect our communities.
Elections are a time for our families to make our voices heard and to hold lawmakers accountable. Candidates need to know our issues and take clear stands on those issues. The stakes for any election are high. But Election 2020 will be pivotal in shaping the lives and wellbeing of our members, our allies, our families.
To support our members in holding policy makers accountable, between now and November 2020, we will spotlight key issue areas that are vital to the wellbeing of poor and low-income families. Our families need Fair Work. We need equal opportunities for Good Health. We need a strong social safety net to support Family Economic Security. And we need our rights to Equal Voice.
We will lift up these issues, bringing together new and past contributions from members and allies, so that the EVA community and the broader Equal Voice network can use these resources in our shared work for change.
We will also highlight the many powerful ways EVA members and allies are helping others to share their voice and take action in their communities and across the country. And we will spotlight local opportunities for members and allies to connect with organizations working in their states and regions.
Families Must Be Heard
We live in a deeply challenging time for families. But we are also seeing newly empowered voices rise from our communities to the halls of power. They are giving light to important views, experiences, and ideas that have long been ignored. The call for change is getting louder.
In this moment, Equal Voice Action is committed to helping our members and allies ensure that our elected officials are hearing our voices, honoring our values, and taking real steps to improve the well-being of poor and low-income families.
These are families who do much of the hard work that makes our country run. These are families who are separated from others not by character but by lack of justice and opportunity. These are families who deserve an Equal Voice. In 2020 and beyond, these families—our families—must be heard.
